Staff Development
We all know that a school can only be outstanding when its staff are outstanding. At Hive, we are immensely proud of our team and of the energy they put into developing their skills.
Staff are supported with an excellent programme of Continuing Professional Development. Weekly CPD sessions cover a wide range of themes. The sessions are presented by Hive staff who have knowledge and a passion to share, as well as by external experts in specific fields. Some great recent examples include:
• Boxall Profile Training
The Boxall Profile is a question-based tool that allows educational practitioners to assess pupils' emotional development in comparison with their peers. The prompts allow us as educators to get an insight into some of the factors that inhibit young people and ultimately unlock ways to support them in achieving their academic and personal potential. The training introduces different areas of the Boxall Profile and provides valuable time and space to apply its principles to the pupils we teach.
• Learning to Write in Primary
Sharing the journey of how young children acquire the skill to write, using examples of written work from primary school. The session shared the strategies that can be used to build up the pupils level of writing to secondary school stage. It also runs through curriculum expectations at each stage and the specific strategies we can use to support pupils who may be entering school at a "below expected age" of writing.
• Supporting Neurodiversity in the Classroom
Leading experts share their knowledge around supporting neurodiversity in the classroom. The session includes a special focus on ADHD, as well as helping to support pupils with SEMH and Neurodiversity.
• Raising Achievement
A full day dedicated to finding ways for departments to collaborate, to ensure that all pupils meet their potential. As part of this process we consider "each individual pupil" and their needs, ultimately resulting in a practical action plan. Staff work in teams to identify strategies that can be implemented on a department level to help support key pupils.
• The Hive Way
Outlining the key principles behind the ‘Hive Way‘, our culture and our approach to behaviour management. The session also looks at how the language we use in schools everyday can help to communicate a positive culture; such as using the collective "we" - e.g. "That is not how we behave here".
